Weekly Review - 26.05.2014

Dear All,

Deutsche Bank downgraded India to 'Neutral'

Deutsche Bank has downgraded the Indian equities to 'neutral', saying valuations appear 'very stretched' against lower GDP growth. Although they acknowledge that there is a potential for a massive long-term upside, but they suspect that there needs to be further economic pain before the agenda for more fundamental reform to governance practices becomes clearer

The BJP's historic victory in the Indian elections has rekindled hope for structural reforms, which has already led to sharp rally seen in banks, consumption stocks, infrastructure and oil & gas stocks.

Post the Modi win, many brokerages have revised their respective Sensex and Nifty targets within hours of the election results on Friday. Most of them see the Sensex hitting 27000-28,000 by the December-end and for Nifty they see the index rallying over 8000 in the same period.

Aditya Narain of Citi group says that the Modi-led NDA has won decisively, and India's equity markets could well have struck gold. This victory should offer India 5 years of decisive governance, and has upgraded its year-end target for Sensex to 26,300.

Deutsche Bank believes that the longer-term prospects for the India economy and financial markets are largely dependent on the ability and willingness of the new administration to undertake a root and branch reform of corporate level governance

The positive momentum for change derives from the fact that the shortcomings of the existing system have become increasingly apparent as the pace of economic growth has slowed. Moreover, Modi's resounding mandate does to some extent represent the victory of a younger and more urban India over the sort of deference and dynastic-based politics, which has allowed dysfunctional governance systems to thrive over the past thirty years.

Last week on Hourly chart - Wrote that the previous low is very important, will bounce back if it holds. See what happened.

>>> Happened and Yet to <<<

>>> Click the chart to see on full screen <<<

As expected nifty moved up. Now the big question is - are we still in consolidation phase of wave (II) or not. Other than technical one more important event like Modi taking Oath as PM should be considered. So this sentiment may trigger a bounce.
In that case the above marking may become invalid. So one must keep the Stop loss before taking any position.

Bank Nifty had a confusing signal with 2 alternatives. So break above the channel should confirm the bull phase. Else break below the lower channel may trigger a fall.

Weekly Review 19.05.2014

Dear All,

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) topped all expectations to race towards a stupendous Lok Sabha victory, with 282 seats of its own in the 543-member Lok Sabha, as India voted decisively for a stable government under a strong leader. This was the most unambiguous victory for a single party since 1984, when the Congress had bagged more than 400 seats.

The scale of the victory of the National Democratic Alliance took time to sink in but when it did, India Inc was ecstatic that the long wait for a stable government at the Centre was finally over. Expectations are running high that the new government would unleash the next wave of reforms, which would have a positive multiplier effect and herald a new growth cycle.

Over recent years, CEOs have maintained that one of the primary concerns of industry has been the slowdown in growth on account of policy inaction and various scams and allegations of corruption, leading to low business confidence. A key expectation is to restore the confidence of the business community through effective governance and enforcement of anti-corruption laws.

Since January, foreign institutional investors ( FIIs) have invested Rs 41,221 crore in Indian equities in anticipation of a pro-reform and progrowth government at the Centre.

Indian stocks are on the cusp of a bull run and could gain 10-15% before December, said Jim O'Neill, former chairman of Goldman Sachs Asset Management, he said that investors would revise economic forecasts if the new government implements reforms, especially in retail and banking sectors, and opens up the economy.

"They are already talking about 6.5-7% growth in FY16, if the government follows investment reforms. At the end of FY16, people may look forward to 7-8% growth," said O'Neill over phone from Las Vegas. India, which is able to form a majority government in 30 years, is a positive by itself, he said.

Moreover, International investors are excited about a business-friendly government at the Centre.

Support @ 7046

Dear All,

Results for the 16th Lok Sabha will be announced on Friday, May 16, 2014, between 8 am and 5 pm, which could trigger some bit of volatility in the Nifty and the Sensex, while the numbers are being announced.

The Current rally is built on the hopes of an NDA-led government and if they fail to get clear majority or even if there is a fractured mandate, the markets may crash from anywhere between 10 and 15 per cent and may even hit the lower circuit

The recent run-up seen in benchmark indices is evident from the fact that the markets are pricing in some probability of the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre. Most exit polls are projecting that a BJP-led alliance may come to power with the range predicted to be 250-280 seats.

The markets haven't moved much in the past two trading sessions. This points to the fact that investors may have already factored in a Modi win.

"It seems the NDA may form the next government at the Centre. The Nifty around 7100 levels suggests a lot of good news is already factored in. Having said that, if there is a fractured mandate, with the NDA bagging around 220 seats, then the markets will be in shock," said Raamdeo Agrawal, joint managing director of Motilal Oswal.

"The market expects the NDA to garner around 240-250 seats, as a base case. I do not think the market is anticipating anything below or higher than that. Even a verdict of 260 would be a minor positive surprise," said Rahul Singh, Head of Research, Standard Chartered Securities India Ltd.

If the NDA manages to get less than 200 seats on Friday, it will be indeed very disappointing for the market participants and in that case, a third front might try to form the government with direct or in-direct support from the UPA, which could significantly increase the risk of instability and policy logjam, say experts.

"This is a less likely scenario, but in case that happens, benchmark indices may slump by 15-20 per cent. Investors should place their bets on defensives and stocks with earning upgrades," Macquarie said in a report.

>>> NIFTY <<<

>>> Click the chart to see on full screen <<<

Move above 7140 should help the bulls to recover. Else 7046 which is 23.6% retracement of the previous upmove should support.

>>> Rcom <<<

>>> Click the chart to see on full screen <<<

Rcom - Sell call fetched to us 10,000. Now if the resistance line as shown on chart, not able to cross, then expect more and more fall in coming days.

NTPC - we are long for the second time in the week and gave us a good return. PRICE and RSI break out shows more bull move coming. Cheers!!!
